Barbus plebejus Bonaparte, 1839

  • Lectotype: ANSP 6183.
    • Lectotype designated by Bianco 1995.
  • Paralectotypes: ANSP 6184-88 (5), ?USNM 10079 (2).

Type locality: Lake Como, Italy.

Etymology: plebius (= common), allusion not explained; name dates to Valenciennes (1829) and may refer its being described as a variant of the Common Barbel, B. vulgaris (= barbus). (From The ETYFish project)
