- Type locality: CANADA: Saskatchewan, Royal Edward Road, 25 km NW Maple Creek.
- Etymology: The name of this species is dedicated to R.I. Larson. Ruby I. Larson was a geneticist at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Lethbridge.
