Astyanax orbignyanus (Valenciennes, 1850) in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1850

  • Syntypes: MNHN 0000-4530 (1, poor condition), A-9816 to 9818 (2, 1, 1).

Type locality: Buenos Aires, Argentina.

  • Status: species inquirendae (see: Lucena et al., 2016)

Etymology: –anua (= belonging to): Alcide d’Orbigny (1802-1857), explorer and naturalist, who provided type and information about its habitat and behavior. (From: The ETYFish project)
