Synonyms

edit
  • Cacoecia occidentalis Walsingham, 1891: 64. Protonym.
  • Archips occidentalis (Walsingham, 1891); after synonymy of Cacoecia under Archips in Fernald, 1908: 14; explicit in Brown, 2007, but as senior synonym of recombined Archips heliaspis (Meyrick, 1909)
  • Choristoneura occidentalis (Walsingham, 1891); Razowski, 2008: 247. Comb. nov. [Note: This formation results a senior homonym of Choristoneura occidentalis Freeman, 1967 (a distinct taxon from USA; where the replacement name Choristoneura freemani Razowski, 2008 was proposed in Razowski, 2008: 246). However this has been subsequently contested, see commentary in Gilligan & Brown, 2014 accepting the revised nomenclature as valid (with reservation), but followed by explicit rejection in Brunet, et al. 2016: 9–11 (yet without justification or specification of any alternative generic combination for Walsingham's species, nor any recognition of nomenclatural consequences for now uncertain affinity with the previously proposed junior synyonym Choristoneura heliaspis (Meyrick, 1909))].
