Type locality: Off Hiri Bay, 27°36'S, 144°18'W, Rapa, depth 30 meters.
Etymology: australis from southern, referring to distribution in South Pacific (Rapa, Pitcairn, Easter and Kermadec islands), (from The ETYFish Project).
