Type locality: Cerro Pelón, isla Isabel (Nayarit) 21°51′21″N, 105°53′33″W, 15 m depth, 01/30/2003.
Etymology: Clathrum (Greek) = lattice or grate, referring to the shape of an open latticework of anastomosed tubes.
