- Holotype: LSUHC 12124, adult ♀, collected by Lee Grismer, Perry L. Wood JR., Brandon T. Burch, Anthony J. Cobos, Matthew L. Murdoch and Hayden R. Davis on 16 March 2015.
- Type locality: “Genting Highlands, Malaysia (3°25’26.32” N; 101°47’35.52”, 1218 m in elevation)”.
- Etymology: The specific epithet is a noun in apposition in reference to ‘‘Sméagol’’, a fictional character created by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Hobbit (1937).
