Type locality: Brazil: Pará: Rurópolis, rio Tapajós basin: rio Itapacurá, right bank tributary of rio Tapajós, 4°36'20" S, 55°30'41" W.

Etymology: The specific epithet krenakarore, from ‘kran iakarare’ meaning ‘giant indians’, honors the indigenous tribe Kren-Akarore that originally inhabited the banks of rio Peixoto de Azevedo, rio Tapajós basin on the border of Mato Grosso and Pará states. To survive to the presence of the ‘white men’, the whole Kren-Akarore population was forced to be transferred to Parque Nacional do Xingu in the late 60s. Currently, they like to call themselves ‘Panará’, meaning ‘we people’ (Kahn & Campanili, 2011).
