Type locality: Brazil: Pará: Parauapebas, rio Tocantins basin, rio Parauapebas, Igarapé Alemão, Floresta Nacional de Carajás, 6°00'13" S, 50°34'34" W.
Etymology: The specific epithet karajas honors the indigenous tribe Karajás (Carajás) that inhabit the rio Araguaia banks, Ilha do Bananal, rio Tocantins basin and Serra dos Carajás (type locality of the species).
