Type locality: At source and along stream of a qanat at Naqsh-e Rostam, Pulvar River system, 29°59'30"N, 52°54'00"E, Fars, Iran, elevation 1660 meters.
Etymology: of a qanat (an underground water channel), referring to habitat in which it was found, “now fast disappearing with the use of pump wells, and in recognition of the contribution to civilization made by the Iranian people through this innovative irrigation technique”.
