Holotype: SNM 6788. Paratypes (18): SNM 6788.
Type locality: Afghanistan, Hari River at Herat, 34°20’N, 62°12’E.[1]
Etymology: The species is named for the late Juraj Holcík, Bratislava, colleague and friend of the authors, in recognition of his many contributions to the science of ichthyology.
