Zapteryx exasperata (Jordan & Gilbert, 1880)

  • Lectotype: USNM 25050 (lost).
    • Lectotype established in Jordan & Evermann 1896:65 as USNM 35050 [= 25050]; that specimen apparently lost.
  • Paralectotypes: (about 20) MCZ 36022 [ex USNM] (2); USNM 24878 (orig. 12, now 9), 25032 (1).

Type locality: San Diego Bay, California, U.S.A.

Etymology: exasperata (= made rough), referring to back entirely covered with stout, close-set, stellated prickles. (From : The ETYFish project)
