Type locality: SOUTH AFRICA: KwaZulu-Natal: off Boteler Point (27.00°S 32.92°E), -70 m, coral rubble, dredged NMDP, RV Meiring Naude, st’n ZB5, 6.vi.1987.
Etymology: From Greek creta (white earth or chalk); in reference to the superficial chalk-like intritacalx deposit on the shell.
