Trial period

edit

@MarcoAurelio: The bot now has bot user rights and is approved for a 7 day trial period, as per this bot request. Regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 14:09, 12 March 2017 (UTC).Reply

Thanks for the note. I've fixed some double redirects today and scheduled the bot to fix them on a daily basis. As for the archive service, I'll set some pages for archival so you can see how it works. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:42, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Marking archives as archives

edit

I suggest that the bot should add an explanatory hatnote when creating archives, informing users that the archive should not be edited further. For instance one can use a combination of the templates {{Archive top}} and {{Archive bottom}}, or any other such method. Here's an example with the above templates:

This is an archive of closed discussions. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this archive.

Example of how it would look with the above templates. The actual archive would be placed here. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua […]

The above discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this archive.

Please note that the font- and background colours are included within the {{Archive top}} template. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 13:22, 15 March 2017 (UTC).Reply

Hi. The script only supports adding a top template such as it did on Talk:Portada/Archive 2008, because the configuration template does have it set. That can be configured using the | archiveheader = parameter of the archiving template. That is, it depends on how the archive template on the page is configured, and the bot will just read it and work as ordered. Let me know if you have further questions or concerns. Best regards, -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:42, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I am happy for the bot to archive my talk page also. Let meknow what I have to do there I have never had a bot do that before. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 04:44, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Dear @Faendalimas: I am happy to archive your talk page too. You can see an example at mw:Manual:Pywikibot/archivebot.py/setup. If for example you want to use incremental archives (1, 2, 3...) as I see you've already, I'd go with:
{{User:MABot/config
|archive = User talk:Faendalimas/Archive %(counter)d
|algo = old(30d)
|counter = 2
|maxarchivesize = 150K
|minthreadsleft = 2
|minthreadstoarchive = 1
|archiveheader= {{archive top}}
}}
That will: archive your talk page to Archive_1, Archive_2, etc. of two-section threads older than 30 days since the last timestamp. It'll start archiving on Archive_2, and will start a new one when the size of the archive reaches 150 Kilobytes of content. It will also tell the bot to archive no less than 1 threads (and will skip archiving if there are at least 2 threads able to be archived) and also tells the bot that the page should be kept at all times with a minimum of 2 threads of content. Please let me know if you like those senttings or if you want them changed and I'll be happy to code them for you :) Regards, -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:50, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
That works fine for me thanks. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 18:30, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Done! All set up. —MarcoAurelio (☎ talk) 12:29, 18 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

MABot is now approved.

edit

MABot is now approved, with bot flag and auto-patroller rights. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 22:00, 29 March 2017 (UTC).Reply

Tommy Kronkvist: Thank you. Autopatroller rights ain't really needed as the bot usergroup has autopatrol rights by default and therefore it's redundant. If it's policy or custom to add it nonetheless, then disregard that. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (☎ talk) 12:28, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
