Vernacular Names

Before making wholesale changes to VN please, for example Lavandula see this discussion first. I suggest you reverts your changes in capitalisation, as many of them are incorrect, including English. Andyboorman (talk) 10:23, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

@Andyboorman:User MPF was the only one, who opposed to a suggestion to write vernacular_names grammatically in right case, but Rosičák explained him, how he can find lowercase for non latin alphabets. OK? --Kusurija (talk) 15:55, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Look I do not really care about VN - it is an irrelevance for classification and taxonomy site like WS anyway. However, The accuracy required rubs off in other areas and VNs in English should be capitalised Example. OK the recent discussion was a mess with no consensus and the example sites offered by @Rosičák: were wrong for English. Reverting well meaning edits with incorrect data is a no no on WS, I will put this down to inexperience. Meanwhile happy new year! Andyboorman (talk) 16:07, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

You are both correct and incorrect, as the name is capitalised on the site above the picture or do I need glasses? Anyway the point is made about lists and labels, but in "conversation" either. Andyboorman (talk) 17:07, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

This may meen, that author(s) use some style (it is capitalised) of writing in picture labels and normal style in plain text. So what? Does it mean, that style in plain text is uncorrect and style in picture labels is correct? I personally don't think so. And You? Labels above picture optically looks better (for someone) with capitals, than with lowercase. So what? --Kusurija (talk) 18:28, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

when you are writing some text, do you always use lower case? even when starting new sentences? or in index lists? the whole point here is that names in lists are not in the middle of a sentence, they use Title case. from this paragraph, see how bad it looks when you break with standard conventions :-) also please note wikispecies' restriction to one name per language; wikispecies is not the place for long lists of vernacular names. thanks! - MPF (talk) 18:48, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Do what you wish with VN - it means nothing as regards the main purpose of WS. In this case, as with life, one size does not always fit all. However, it is probably not a good idea to impose your ideas on others using an edit war, particularly where the other editor may be more knowledgeable than you. By the way, as you edit through VN, could you be so kind as to edit out la=, as we surely all can agree that Latin is not a vernacular language? Yes - please note Latin (unless there is a known classical Latin name which is not the same as the scientific name), and also Simple English, are not added in the VN. See the Help:Vernacular names section. - MPF (talk) 18:48, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

@Andyboorman: Good evening, Andyboorman! I'm not sure, whether you put there apropriate link, because namely this edit is that one, that I didn't understand. Could you explain me, how the deleted taxons (namely in that edit) was rebuilded to the (new?) structure (tree). Excuse me, that I'm so dummy, that I in no way can understand, what is the right structure of tree 1. for rosids I, 2. tree for Celastrales and other deleted by that edit. Where I can find that deleted from Rosids I. taxons after it was componed to right new structure? They can't flow in air, can they? So show me not that link, because for which I asked question, but link to rebuilding structure (if it was made at all). Thank you. --Kusurija (talk) 20:26, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
