Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

You should find most formatting rules in Help:Contents, if you need anything in particular feel free to ask me. Have fun here on Wikispecies! --Kempm 21:41, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Kempm ! edit

Well You may see bad things in pocillopora so far; it is because i did not have read the book.

Well i am going to take the time.

I ll contact you in case. Gaiapolis 21:45, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Infact I already have a question see, the pump. Gaiapolis 22:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry you're doing fine. The strict rules on Wikispecies makes it hard to start, but you get the hang of it soon enough. I answered your questions in the village pump --Kempm 22:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I see you are getting the formatting correct, and also got your first template right :) Two minor things that I can add:

 1. Alphabetize everything you can. When there are not many taxa on a page this is not very important, but we also have pages like: Agaricus, where it is absolutely vital to find what one is looking for.
 2. The species templates: {{sp}} template automatically adds a minus sign. Whereas {{splast}} does not. (Hence splast should always come last in a list of species. --Kempm 13:19, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice to you to confirm my progres. I keep on...Don't hesitate to stop me if yo find bad things. I see you are awake at the time as me : You are in Netherlands or US ? gaiapolis 13:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I live in Pays-Bas :) --Kempm 14:04, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, take a look at Template:Goniopora. Notice the
at the end of the second line. I notice you are struggling with placing those breaks. --Kempm 17:02, 19 December 2006 (UTC) Done gaiapolis 18:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well I have a problem with the Caryophyllidae familia, Eusmillinae subfamilia : when you go down to in direction o species and try species Euphyllia, you will notice a mistake on the name of subfamilia due to a test and now is "Euagariciidae" which doesnot exist. In fact it is the subfamilia : Eusmillinae. can you repair ? Sorry gaiapolis 17:54, 19 December 2006 (UTC) Seems to be done thank you gaiapolis 18:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have made a mistake I can get rid of in Diploastrea. It's just about the format of the genus; I may have made a mistake in the template and I don't know how to go back into a template. PLease. Looking for help gaiapolis 21:26, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok that's solved I think. I think you misunderstood my last comment about placing the
. The correct way to place the break is inside the template. As I did in Template:Diploastrea. It's not a big deal, but not standard to place the break outside the template. --Kempm 22:10, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well I see. That means I must correct everywhere I edited. That give me the desire of sleeping. Tomorrow is another day.

gaiapolis 22:23, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry, about changing it. I have been a little busy today, but I might correct it tomorrow :) --Kempm 22:33, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
very good . I keep on so. gaiapolis 06:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Kempm ! So far I have checked the
of all the scleractinians I made the precedent days. It's OK now. gaiapolis 16:52, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see. You're very busy :) --Kempm 17:38, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I am. I have little time and I Think the project of having a complete tree for common use.

By the way, you may be familiar enough to the project . Can you give me an idea of what is wikispecies to you ? And wiki data ? Another question is : how can you send me a message on my current page to join me ? I don(t know and I just answer on my page, assuming that you will come and see. (and that works !)gaiapolis 18:04, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will know in two ways when a certain page has been edited, first there's the link recent changes, which will show the last edits that were made by anyone working on wikispecies. Secondly, I signed up for RSS, which is a mechanism that sends an email to me whenever a page has been edited. In that way I can keep track of the things I need to do.
What wikispecies is for me. Well not wikispecies in particular but wikimedia in general I see that as one big Net of knowledge. Wikispecies is only a little part of that. What is being worked on, with the introduction of wikidata is better cooperation between the projects, and thereby bringing all that seperate knowledge closer together. What wikispecies is also trying to achieve is function as a central registration agency of species names. There has never been an agency like that and names were published in thousands of magazines, this caused lot of chaos, with several descriptions and names being given to the same organism. So a central agency is highly needed. I hope we can do that, but I must admit that I have doubts. (We still lack the support of the scientific community, and actually we never made rules for this either) --Kempm 18:41, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

We meet the problem of collaboration with scientic community in large. That point was also discussed during the chat about WM and Open Access. I should take time to think about it deeply one day.Maybe during holidays, when people are stress less and me too gaiapolis 18

I would appreciate it very much if you want to think about it :) And any idea how we can improve would be appreciated. Thx. --Kempm 18:59, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
