Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

I appreciate that you are just adding VN at the moment, but good luck with your editing, please note the help section, if you plan on creating or editing taxon pages. Best Regards Andyboorman (talk) 10:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

{{BASEPAGENAME}} edit

Hello. Please note that we should never use "BASEPAGENAME" here at Wikispecies. I know that it is common in Wikipedia and the other wikis, but here at Wikispecies we must deal with the data on our pages in a much more scientific and precise way. There are some special cases where the BASPAGENAME "magic word" is used automatically by bots, certain templates or the wiki server software, but that almost only happens on pages or with functions that we users never see or edit, so that's okay. And we "human users" should never use it – at least not on Wikispecies.

The Wikispecies community had a discussion and poll about this a while back (before you were active here), and it was then decided that we should stop to use BASEPAGENAME on all pages. You can read about those discussions and see the outcome of the poll here.

Feel free to ask me any questions on the subject if you want to. Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 00:13, 27 February 2019 (UTC).Reply

@Tommy Kronkvist: Wait, I suddenly know why, because that user is requesting Wikispecies:Village Pump/zh to be set as zh language with some technical change, so that mw:LanguageConverter can be enabled on that page. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:05, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Liuxinyu970226: There seems to be some misunderstanding because the mention is about my edits on Coniogramme suprapilosa. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 魔法少女静樹 (talkcontribs) 12:52, 25 August 2019.
Yes, however it doesn't really matter: as explained above we (not including bots) shouldn't use "BASEPAGENAME" on any page. The reason is that we've had the above mentioned poll about removing BASEPAGENAME were it was decided we should try to get rid of BASEPAGENAME from our pages.
