Holotype: UCR 2289-01. Paratypes (21): UCR 0357-16 (1), 0618-05 (1), 2336-14 (2), 2503-01 (17).

Type locality: Playa Escondida, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, 9°40'0.0012"N, 84°40'24.6"W.

Etymology: like a leopard, referring to dorsal color pattern (brown background with orange shades and white or pale vermiculations, sometimes merging to form spots or ocelli).
