Type locality: (Neotype) Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Aegean Sea.
Original combination: Thalassema scutatus Ranzani, 1817
Neotype: RBCM 005-140-001, Turkey, Izmar Bay, 38°30'00"N, 26°50'00"E, 33 m, 11-VII-2000.
Paraneotypes: RBCM 005-140-002, 9 specimens, same data as neotype.
