  • Holotype: MZUSP 118707 (formerly, UERJ 1111).
  • Paratypes: (3) UERJ 1741, 1819; MCP 773.

Type locality: off the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Etymology: Named for The Hunchback of Notre-Dame from the 19th Century novel by Victor Hugo, in obvious reference to its most noticeable character.
