  • Holotype: SMEC 373.
  • Paratypes (9): IPMB-I 01.00115 (0, 1), 01.00117 (0, 1); CSIRO H 7086–01 (2 prenatal juvenile males, 2 females, from mother IPMB-I 01.00115), H 7543–01 (1, 0), H 7544–01 (1, 0); SMEC 374 (0, 1).

Type locality: Kota Kinabalu fish market (05°58'57.66"N, 116°04'19.83"E), Sabah, Malaysia.

Etymology: Named with reference to the type locality (Borneo) from where the first specimens were observed during a UK Darwin Foundation funded survey of the sharks and rays of Sabah in 1996.
