- Holotype: UF 226379; collected 17 July, 1994 by Fred G. Thompson, Elizabeth L. Mihalcik and Val J. Roessling.
- Type locality: MÉXICO: Nuevo León State, Cerro Peña Nevada, an open oak forest on a limestone talus slope, 3 km southwest of La Encantada (23.9214º N, 99.805º W), 2520 m alt.
- Etymology: The species name ceramicum is from the Classical Greek, κεράμικος, earthen. The name alludes to the clay-like coloration of the shell.
