Original combination: Ophiolebes brevispina H.L. Clark, 1911
Type locality: Albatross: station 3480, Bering Sea, 52°6'N 171° 45' W, 283 fathoms, black sand, coral, rocky.
Syntypes: MCZ OPH-3237; MCZ OPH-3433; USNM 25736; USNM 26957.
Etymology: From Latin brevis (short) and spina (spine), refering to the very short arm spines.
