Type locality: Southwestern Atlantic shelf, Bahía Samborombón, San Clemente del Tuyú. [1]
Etymology: Species epithet from the Latin ridens (= laughing or smiling), in reference to the peculiar countenance of this species caused by the corners and width of the mouth that resembles a smile.
