- Type locality: Wistari Reef, southern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia.
- Holotype: R.W. Ricker & G. Norbury; 22 Nov. 1982; 9 m, on encrusting coralline algae along the central NE reef slope. MELU KA-00355. (kept in formaldehyde, impeding DNA sequencing, and type material ambiguous )
- Epitype (designated by Vieira et al. 2016: 700): Australia, Lord Howe Island, G.W. Saunders GWS022754 (UNB).
