James Sowerby (1757–1822), English naturalist, botanist, and botanical illustrator.
Father of George Brettingham Sowerby I, James de Carle Sowerby and Charles Edward Sowerby, grandfather of George Brettingham Sowerby II, James Sowerby and John Edward Sowerby, great-grandfather of George Brettingham Sowerby III, and great-great grandfather of Arthur de Carle Sowerby.
