Add another link to the list
editI think that another good link for translation is Special:LanguageStats, and can be add here. It show all the translation in a language and can be useful. יונה בנדלאק (talk) 11:29, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Official bird names
editI hope that this is the right place to drop the link to the bird names database. Avibase I suppose that this can be used to generate name lists automatically. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 92.221.111.106 (talk) 19:38, 26 July 2017
Hello everyone,
I've had a look at Wikispecies and did a translation and noticed the following on Help:Translation: You can also add to all links that refer to pages with namespaces above Special:MyLanguage/
.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has any problem with me doing changes like this to pages inside of this wiki. Regards, Zenith4237 (talk) 08:35, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- Ping at two recently active translation admins @CreativeC and Chrumps:. --Zenith4237 (talk) 10:24, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- I take the liberty to ping the rest of them: @AlvaroMolina, Kaganer, Koavf, Samuele2002, Stïnger, and יונה בנדלאק: Translations admins, please share your opinions about this. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk)‚ 21:09, 23 May 2018 (UTC).
- @Zenith4237 and Tommy Kronkvist: This should not cause problems in any way. But please explain for me, are you going to include these templates into translation engine? In my opinion, there should be translated only standard headers and the phrase "find all Wikispecies pages which cite this reference". They can be translated once, and then substituted with a template, so that they are immediately displayed in the language of the user interface. So, in my opinion, adding such prefixes into links to these references templates is unnecessary. --Kaganer (talk) 21:34, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
- PS: Addition
Special:MyLanguage/
prefix is needed only if target page is translated directly through translation extension (with subpages /en, /fr, /nl, etc.). In my opinion, for normal links to templates this will not be necessary in any case. --Kaganer (talk) 21:41, 23 May 2018 (UTC)- I agree. Also, in my opinion all of the links to reference templates in the "Name" and "Synonymy" (sub)sections on the Amphibalanus amphitrite amphitrite page are malformed and non-standard. First of all we shouldn't place any reference templates outside of the "References" section. Secondly the templates shouldn't be called using plain wiki links such as for example
[[Template:Petersen, 1973|{{aut|Petersen}}, 1973]]
. Instead the standard and shorter form{{Petersen, 1973}}
is very much preferred – and praxis. In the reference templates "own" pages we never use theSpecial:MyLanguage/
code string, since the title of a cited source, publication or publisher is never translated. There we instead specify the languages using the{{Lang}}
template together with a relevant and specific ISO language code. Please see the above mentioned Petersen template for examples about that. I am as always of course open for suggestions and ideas, but the above mentioned praxis is based on consensus and for the most part also described in our help pages.

- On a further note the Amphibalanus amphitrite amphitrite page is burdened by several other problems as well. For instance it uses a lot of
{{Syn}}
and other deprecated and/or unrecommended templates, but the taxons' Talk page is better suited for details about that. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 01:42, 24 May 2018 (UTC).

- Hello, thank you everyone for your opinions, to which I agree. My thoughts behind this were that after some time, all of these pages would be translated anyway so adding the
Special:MyLanguage/
would come with time anyway. I was not familiar with the praxis of adding the language to templates in a different way. I don't think reverting my edits would make sense as there is no harm that has been caused, but of course there will be an end to this from now on. Greetings, --Zenith4237 (talk) 15:05, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
