Type locality: Locality MS.53.035, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. More precise locality information is on file at the MMNS.
Stratigraphic occurrence and age: lower Clayton Formation, approximately 4.5 m above the contact with the underlying Upper Cretaceous strata (2.5–3 m above the Pycnodonte pulaskensis beds), lower Paleocene (Danian Stage).
Etymology: named for George Phillips (MMNS), who discovered the specimen, in honor of his contributions to Mississippi paleontology.
