Holotype: ZMH 26160, adult ♂, 422 mm TL fresh, 390.5 mm TL 70% ethanol preserved, collected on 15 December 1988.

Type locality: “RV ‘Vityaz’, cruise 17, station 2707, Walters Shoals, 33°01.8’ S, 44°23.6’ E – 32°59.8’ S, 44°24.4’ E, 910–925 m depth, 19.4 m”.

Eponymy: Johann Sebastian Bach^[→wp] [Weigmann et al., 2016: 420]
