- Holotype: UALVP 44700, scale.
- Type locality and horizon: At 34.5 m, southern Read Bay section, east coast of cornwallis Island; upper part of Barlow Inlet Formation, Lower Lochkovian, Lower Devonian.
Etymology: From the Latin tridens, meaning three-toothed, a reference to crown terminating posteriorly in three pointed ridges.
