- Holotype: NMNZ CR 3137, sex unknown.
- Type locality: East end of Seal Point, The Snares, 48°07'S 166°36'E, brown alga, 2-4 m, D. S. Horning, 1 February 1975, SA-893.
- Etymology: Named for Dr D. E. Hurley in recognition of his contribution to the understanding of the New Zealand amphipod fauna.
