This page is a translated version of the page Wikispecies:Languages and the translation is 25% complete.

Wikispecies aims to include very little text, but uses English (ISO code en) as its default language on content pages.

Journal and article titles (and other text not in English) should be marked up using {{Lang}}, using the relevant ISO code for the language (which can be found in the infobox on the en.Wikipedia article about the language, if needed). Use the shortest language tag possible that sufficiently describes the target language. As an example, for Italian the two-letter it language tag stated in ISO 639-1 is preferred over the three-letter ita tag stated in ISO 639-2 and ISO 639-3.

The use of such markup benefits people (such as those with vision disabilities) who use assistive software to read pages to them, as well as automated translation tools. For a more detailed explanation, see :en:Template:Lang/doc#Rationale.

Whole pages translated into other languages, such as localised copies of policies or help pages, should use translation markup instead.
