I'm an admin at Wiktionary with a special interest in plant and animal names. With all I do at Wiktionary, I don't want to get too deeply involved here, but I may make a few obvious corrections when I see them.

As for my background:

I was considering a botany degree before switching to linguistics, so I've taken a couple of college-level botany classes. While I was active at BugGuide I read the ICZN and taught myself a great deal about zoological taxonomy.

I've taught myself enough Latin and Ancient Greek to be able to understand the formation of taxonomic names, and took a class at UCLA in Classical Linguistics, which dealt with how to do etymological work in Greek and Latin.

I'm not an expert at anything, but I know just enough in a number of fields to understand the terminology and to make connections between fields that specialists in any one field might miss.
