Name

Trifolieae Endl., Fl. Poson.: 452 (1830).

• Type genus: Trifolium L. Sp. Pl. 2: 764. (1753)
  

Note: This tribe is morphologically distinctive, but is considered paraphyletic, as circumscribed above. However, it is part of the monophyletic Vicoid clade that includes; Cicereae and Fabeae (as Vicieae), as well as Galega (Steele & Wojciechowski, 2003).
