Journal template edit

(Moved from the Village Pump.)

In line with {{Biography}} and {{Repository}}, I have now created {{Journal}}. Once again, your feedback would be appreciated, please. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:56, 3 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

For Journal, add years of publication, "Published by", and "Place published". Neferkheperre (talk) 15:49, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Is the place of publication a really useful element to have as opposed to publisher? Circeus (talk) 16:14, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Both, the place of publication and the publisher may change in the course of time. Also the name of a journal may change, but we can then treat this as a different journal. Anyway, I miss the possibilty to show such changes in the history of a journal. For name changes, "preceded by" and "succeeded by" could be added. --Franz Xaver (talk) 19:58, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think these should be left to do manually. Sometimes they are "continued as" (with new ISSN, but same numbering), and both preceded and succeeded may involve multiple journals. Circeus (talk) 20:03, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Botanical publications, like authors, have highly standardized abbreviations, but I dunno if they belong here (I always include it myself because they are used almost universally in short-form citations). The property is not reflected in Wikidata, but P2008, IPNI publication ID, is definitely relevant. Circeus (talk) 22:27, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

We can create (well, propose, but I don't expect any serious opposition) a Wikidata property for this, or any other widely-used template parameter. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:40, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
