Disputed taxon edit

It is Kew's recent assertion that Münchhausen has been misinterpreted by previous authors who have maintained that italicised epithets were varieties not species. Kew appears to be correct and therefore this combination will become the correct name for the White Spruce, previously accepted as Picea glauca. This is due to Münchhausen publishing the basionym Pinus Abies laxa Münchh., Hausvater 5(1): 225 (1770), prior to Pinus glauca Moench, Verz. Ausländ. Bäume: 73 (1785), as found in ICN Article 11 . This recent name change has not been well received by many botanists and may be subject to a proposal to conserve P. glauca on the grounds of nomenclatural stability and common usage. WS can not take side in a taxonomic dispute, therefore this page should be maintained as well as Picea glauca until the situation is resolved. Andyboorman (talk) 09:37, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
