Error edit

Made an error, accidentally replaced the == Vernacular names == part and erased everything because i thought that the bottom part with more names will be visible but for some reason it's not ?

Where's english version for this really! edit

We couldn't find a picture to illustrate this one?

Why is the picture a drawing instead of a photograph?

The drawing is the depiction of humans that was used on the Pioneer 11 plaque.

There are several mammal classifications edit

I have just discovered the article w:Mammal classification on Wikipedia. In this article, it becomes obvious that there are several ways of classifying the "taxonomical area" above Primates (and all or at least most of them seem to be modern and up-to-date!): -- Citylover 14:49, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The so called "Molecular classification of mammals" (which category would be at the top of this class?):
    • Infraclass Eutheria
  • The so called "Standardized textbook classification" (which category would be at the top of this class?):
  • The so called "McKenna/Bell classification" (which category would be at the top of this class?):
    • Subclass Prototheria
    • Subclass Theriiformes
      • Infraclass Holotheria
        • Superlegion Trechnotheria
          • Legion Cladotheria
  • The so called "Mammal Taxonomy" (see also http://www.geocities.com/mammal_taxonomy/index.html) (which category would be at the top of this class?):

Error edit

H.s.idaltu and H.s.sapiens are not subspecies of Homo sapiens :

  • H.s.idalut : is only a name for the skull considered as the elder (this is the meaning of idaltu) of Homo sapiens (before the dating of skulls Omo 1 and Omo 2)
  • H.s.sapiens : was employed when the Man of Neanderthal was considered as a subspecies of Homo sapiens and known as Homo sapiens neanderthalensis. But, since 2003, the Man of Neanderthalensis is considered as a specific specis, distinct of Homo sapiens. So, before 2003 we were member of Homo sapiens sapiens, and since 2003 we are "only" Homo sapiens.

Image edit

Hi, I am new to Wikispecies. I see the current sample image is a painting. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to use a photograph of a human, like with all other animals on here? ImprovedWikiImprovment (talk) 19:19, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I am active more globally, so a ping would be appreciated if you reply. Thanks, ImprovedWikiImprovment (talk) 19:20, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@ImprovedWikiImprovment: Agreed. This actually runs counter to our image guideline, which states that we should have photographs and not illustrations. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:44, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Koavf: I had worked out that it may be the case judging that photographs are used for all other species (where it is possible). Perhaps we can propose an image. We could just copy Wikipedia although there are a lot of images of humans on commons. ImprovedWikiImprovment (talk) 12:35, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ImprovedWikiImprovment: I suggest discussing this at Wikispecies:Village Pump. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:12, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
