Talk:Amblypodia annetta obscura
The name obscura Miskin, has apparently been overlooked by authors dealing with the butterflies of SE Asia/Australasia on a regional basis. It is listed in neither Parsons nor D'Abrera. It still carries specific rank in the BMNH "Lepindex" Card Index, but is treated as something of a nomen dubium by Bridges in both 1988 and 1994 editions. The general consensus in the latter part of the 20th Century is that only 1 species of Amblypodia exists in New Guinea and adjacent islands east of Indonesian Maluku. This is annetta Staudinger. Miskin's specimen came from "Owen Stanley Range" of mountains in S.E. New Guinea, whereas Fruhstorfer's later subspecies A. a. eberalda is from coastal western Papua New Guinea. This separation may have allowed some divergence of phenotype, and so I include obscura here as a subspecies of annetta. There will now be a search for Miskin's Type specimen(s) - possibly in an Australian Museum. If this can be found, its status may be revised further. Accassidy (talk) 13:46, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
