MycoBank No.: MB 516027
Diagnosis: Genus secundum statum molecularem (sequencia acidi desoxiribonucleinici ex nucleis extracti) ad Pannariaceas pertinet, habitu Steinerae simile sed thallis distincte stratosis differt. A generibus aliis Pannariacearum thallis centraliter crustosis ambitu radialiter placodiiformibus ad subfoliaceis differt. Cortex inferior destitutus.
Typus generum: Steineropsis alaskana T. Sprib. & Muggia, 2010
Comment: Steineropsis alaskana strongly resembles members of the genus Steinera. Sequences from two fungal nuclear DNA loci and one mitochondrial locus strongly support the placement of the Steineropsis mycobiont in the Pannariaceae as sister to Protopannaria, with Steinera s.str. retaining a position close to the Coccocarpiaceae.
