Typus: S. Kurz 1446 (K, cf. K000729981, without type indication apart from Ridsdale's determination slip left in 1975) fide Ridsdale (1978: 64).
Type locality: Burma.

Ridsdale also had cited Stephegyne birmanica Gand., Bull. Soc. Bot. France 65: 35 (1918) as a heterotypic synonym (Typus: Kurz 3087, not seen by Ridsdale; Type locality: Birmania[Burma], in Pegu), but Govaerts (2003) unplaced it.
