• Type locality: Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary, off the coast of Georgia, USA (31º24.3'N lat., 80º51.7'W long.).
• Type: R.B. Searles (84-28-27); 7 August 1984; A c 17 m deep reef; Herbarium of Duke University, N. Carolina. (2.8 cm high plant, a microscopic slide, mounted in karosyrup).
