Diagnosis: Species Japewiellae carrollii similis, sed thallus minute granuloso, excipulo granulis minutissimis dense instructo, hypothecio et subhymenio crassiore. Substantiae atranorin, chloroatranorin, acidum 3-chlorostenosporicum, acidum 3-chlorodivaricaticum continens.

Type: MEXICO. Sinaloa. Along route 40 between Durango and Mazatlan near Barranca Lievre, 2 km W of Durango border, 23o28' N, 106o50'30"W, ca 2,320 m, pine-oak forest, on Pinus, 14.III.1985, T. H. Nash 30126 (ASU!, holotype; BG, E, H, M, MEXU, MIN, UPS, isotypes). paratypes: MEXICO. Sinalao. Along Hwy 40 between Mazatlan and Durango Forestry Station, Nash 10140, 10144 (ASU); Near Barranca Lievre, 2 km W of Durango border, Nash 30211 (ASU).

Habitat: On porous bark of Pinus

World distribution and Sonoran distribution: Only known from around the type locality between Mazatlán and Durango in the Sierra Madre Occidental of Sinaloa, Mexico.
