• Typus: L.B. Holm-Nielsen et al. 27021 (25 September 1980; Holotypus: AAU [​AAU Herbarium Database]).
• Type locality: Ecuador. Prov. Napo: slopes of Guagra Urcu, above upper Río Borja, 77°44'W 0°28'S, 2600 m.

Synonyms

• Taylor (2011) placed Gonzalagunia discolor var. danielis J.H.Kirkbr. under G. pauciflora, but she separated them in 2016.

Native distribution areas:

Southern America Western South America Colombia [see Note], Ecuador. Note: A Colombian occurrence mentioned by Taylor (2011) is the type of Gonzalagunia discolor var. danielis. Delprete & Cortés-B. (2015) cited P.A. Silvestone-Sopkin[, N. Paz Z., A. Duque & H. Bayona] 1524 (collected at Cerro del Torra, San José del Palmar, Chocó, alt. 1870 m, 5 January 1984; deposited in COL [​COL000150948 (276460)(GBIF)], CUVC [see this record], MO {MO-1403336 (3222155)(GBIF) & MO-1548787 (04904802)}) as Colombian occurrence of G. pauciflora, but it was re-determined with G. discolor Standl. by Taylor in 2016.
