Description: Macroscopic growth in the form of dark greenish mat in rocks in the shore of a brackish lake. Mats appear rough in texture and have lot of colourless slimy mucilaginous material associated with them (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Older mats on exposure to sunlight appear puffier, thicker and take up an almost light brownish colour (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Laboratory grown cultures exhibit typical light brownish colour, dark blue-green in younger stages. The trichomes have mucilaginous sheath all around them and even at the ends (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Vegetative cells appear granular with gas vesicles; usually barrel shaped to spherical/cylindrical with terminal cell slightly tapered; 2.5-6.5 μm in length to 3.1-5.6 μm in width (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Trichomes are irregular waived to coiled, cells are characteristically constricted at their ends, thus being the defining feature of this strain (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Heterocytes prominently visible; terminal and intercalary; spherical to oblong with clear polar nodules; 6.5-8.0 μm in length to 3.0-6.8 μm in width (Panou & Gkelis, 2021). Akinetes were not observed (Panou & Gkelis, 2021).
