Type: MEXICO. Puebla: Tepoxuchitl, 1910, Friar Nicolas.

Substrate and ecology: All types collected on sandstone. In Kansas, A. nicolai occurred on Pennsylvanian sandstone; in Oklahoma, on Permian "redbeds" of Rush Springs Formation sandstone. (Knudsen & Morse 2009)
