Type locality: MEXICO. Sinaloa, along highway 40 between Mazatlán and Durango forest station, 1.6 km W of Durango border line, on volcanic rock, 23o28'N, 105o50'W, 1830 m, T.H. Nash 10154 (ASU-holotype, designated here; CANB, MEXU, hb. and Kalb, isotypes).

Substrate and ecology (for Sonoran region:) On non-calciferous rock.
