Reptiles
editHi Tony, yes I agree with Reptile Database as the general go to for Reptiles, however, as the exception I would add for turtles the TTWG 2021 checklist available at the link here. Including all its previous editions. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 17:49, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- I also support the proposal to use the Reptile Database for non-turtle non-avian reptiles and TTWG 2021 for turtles. HFoxii (talk) 04:51, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
IRMING
editHi Tony,
this is becoming too much a promotional page for IRMING to be included in the main help pages for Wikispecies. We do not in fact follow IRMING as we existed long before it did. Our various specialists follow the more specialised lists for given groups and also COL. As I said at the lower levels Reptile Database is the goto for reptiles with the exception of turtles, as a turtle specialist I have never used IRMING and only go to CoL to correct them. The IUBS Working Group on Global Lists is working with CoL+ as the likely Global list of life, in their publications for global lists CoL, WoRMS and Wikispecies are listed as the three main global checklists of species. These checklists all have some 20 years of data collecting. This needs to be a more balanced view that recognises the contributions of all these databases. Unfortunately here when we discuss material that includes our own works we must take extra care not to promote our own works, be wary of NPoV etc, it can be hard to do. Its also necessary which I hope you intend to do, to centre this around the Class level down and up from there. Otherwise we are looking at highly generalised overviews.
