- Type locality: (Syntypes) France (Le Croisic, Loire-Atlantique; Hérault: l'étang de Thau (on Cladophora and Chaetomorpha linum) and l'étang de la Nouvelle (on the wall of Ceramium diaphanum).
- Lectotype: Huber (1893: pl. XV: figs 1-9): (Burrows 1991: 108) Burrows, in selecting a lectotype, does not select a locality.
- Epitype (designated by Nielsen, O'Kelly & Wysor in Nielsen et al., 2013: 51): dried material of strain RN041878 maintained as CAT 2439 in C.
