Hmm... I'm not sure this template is necessary/desirable. Please see the related discussion at Wikispecies:Village Pump/Archive 24#Thumb sizes. - dcljr (talk) 23:40, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- Over 7000 pages use this template, so getting rid of it would be a large job.... Koumz (talk) 23:58, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- A bot could do it very easily. - dcljr (talk) 22:25, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- Are you volunteering to write that yourself, or to find someone who can? Noone currently active here is advanced enough to do it well (AFAIK), as it would present issues for normal AWB work. Koumz (talk) 22:40, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- We're getting ahead of ourselves, here. At the moment, I'm still trying (at the VP) to get people to agree that having a general policy encouraging the hard-coding of a "standard" image size is undesirable in the first place. We can discuss template deprecation later, if it comes to that. To answer your question, though: no, I wouldn't be writing it myself (most likely). - dcljr (talk) 06:43, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- I personally don't have much of an opinion on the subject, so I tend to think mainly from the technical implementation side first, as I am the one who usually does this type of project here. There definitely would have to be a consensus first, but the issue I was addressing was whether it was worth energy trying to establish such a consensus given the lack of anyone on this project with technical skill to implement it. This one is beyond my current skills (at least without being extremely time-consuming). You can find at VP and its archives many proposals for sweeping changes to the format here (often made by users who haven't taken the time to integrate themselves into the current function of the project first), and almost all of these seem to assume that someone will appear out of nowhere to write the code and do all the other work that will be required for such massive changes.
