Nomenclator Zoologicus lists the authorship of Thoracophorus as Erichson, 1840: 908. Erichson (p. 908: observation 3) emended Motschulsky's (1837) original spelling of Thoraxophorus (in a publication I have not seen). Recent taxonomic authors use authorship of Motschulsky.
